3 Years Natural

Today marks my third year of being completely relaxer free. Over the past few years I've enjoyed getting to know my hair and re-learning how to take care of it. Admittedly, I've had some horrible experiences and have made numerous mistakes. But I just take that as a part of the growing and learning process. I may not be where I'd hope to be, but that's cool because I'm enjoying the journey :)

For perspective, I decided to only choose pictures of twist-outs done on wet hair.

Oh Yeah, I Graduated

On Sunday, May 20th, I walked across the stage, which signified me receiving my B.A. in Black Studies and Sociology from SUNY New Paltz. I'm not gonna lie, it hasn't hit me yet. Maybe it will when I start my first job or when I start paying more bills.

I still have no clue what I'm doing, and you know what? That doesn't bother me at all. I may not know what my future holds, but I do know that I will continue to be blessed. No, I don't have a job yet, but I'm not worried. Why should I be? Whatever is supposed to happen, will. Of course I'd like to be comforted with the idea of definites and absolutes...but that's not how life works. I'm content with not knowing for now, because I know for certain that in my future, there lies greatness.

Some might call me foolish or dumb. I know it's real out there. I know people that have graduated before me and have yet to find work. Oh trust me, I know. So I'm not being foolish or dumb. I just don't see the point in worrying and freaking out. Of course I want to work. I need a damn income! However, I refuse to have anything but a positive attitude. You can call it what you want.

Graduation Hair

After bitching for the longest about what styles I wanted for my two graduations, I ended up doing styles that I've done before because they were simple and by that point I kinda stopped caring lol

On Saturday, for my First World Graduation, I did a dry flat twist out.

That night, we partied a bit and by the time I got home, the sun was coming up. So I drunkenly put about 5 braids in my hair. When I woke up, a few hours later, I flat twisted two sections of hair in the front and pinned it in the back. I figured this style made sense since I had to wear a cap and I didn't want to deal with crazy hat hair.

I ended up re-twisting the front after taking off my cap anyway lol.

Dry Braidout Gorgeousness :)

After Tuesday's hair fail, that night I decided to braid up my hair for Wednesday. While I was in my friend's room I used some of her blue Dax Pomade to braid my hair (yes, I used some old school hair grease lol). I just used a tiny bit, mostly for my ends. When I started braiding I found myself making much smaller braids than usual. So I ended up with probably 20 something braids instead of my usual 10. When I woke up the next day I separated my braids and well, that's it! Since I did so many braids, there was no need to  separate the pieces and my hair laid pretty nicely. It was big and fluffy with pretty nice definition. The only issue I had was that the front of my hair doesn't ever seem to like to take form like the rest of my hair. But I just brushed it off and walked around with slightly defined hair in the front. Oh well, I was cute anyway lol

I still don't know what I'm doing for graduation though...

Didn't Cha Know Pt 2

I've already mentioned how much I love "Didn't Cha Know" by Erykah Badu. So I decided to sing it, as my last installment of Finding My Voice in New Paltz. I'm definitely going to miss this Mac in the Fahari office. Anywayyy, here's the video. Oh yeah, by the way, I do a bunch of rambling and hit a few bad notes at the end. Just a warning...

Twist and Curl Fail

Since graduation is this weekend, I have been trying to figure out how to wear my hair. So I decided to try my own variation to a twist and curl by using some small rollers that I bought a few weeks ago.

I cowashed my hair with a new conditioner that I bought the other day - TRESemme Naturals Radiant Volume Conditioner. This conditioner was lovely! The slip was great, it smelled good and it had my curls popping. Here's a pic of a random curl I was admiring:

Sexyyyy!

Anyway, back to what I was saying. So I decided to use Cantu Shea butter, pink Eco Styler gel and some olive oil since I had a good result with this combination before. I ended up with 24 twists that I rolled up:

I just KNEW my hair was gonna be cute

It took me around 50 minutes to finish. So I went to bed thinking it would be dry by morning...I was WRONG!

I had somewhere to be so I couldn't sit around and wait for it to dry.

See the excitement? -__-

So I pinned up one side, thinking I was cute.

Then I looked out the window, saw the downpour of rain and realized this style just would not work.

So I went with a corny ass pomp, as usual -__-

The curls were cute but within a few hours my hair was just a big poof. I'm gonna just blame the humidity because usually my hair keeps hold. So maybe I shouldn't call this attempt a fail. I'll try this style again. I'm just not confident enough to try it again for graduation.

Now I'm back to the same place - I have no idea what to do with my hair for graduation...

Get Along With You

"Get Along With You" - Kelis - Kaleidoscope 2000

I used to love this song. The video is kinda creepy but that added to its appeal lol
