Oh yeah, I'm bald...

Soooo I cut my hair on 4/30/15.

I went from this.

To this.

And I couldn't be happier.

I decided to cut my hair for a few reasons. I was tired of doing my hair. I wanted something low maintenance. I wanted to start over. So my hair cut was for convenience but also an attempt for me to shed some negative energy. So far, so good :)

Crochet Braids - Marley Hair Twistout

When I took out my Marley/Senegalese twists back in June, I looked at the hair and decided that I would keep it and recycle it to use for crochet braids. I got this idea from VeePeeJay after coming across this photo a while back:

Cute right?

So I figured re-using my hair made sense. It would be a quick install and cute style. And I was right. It took me less than 3 hours from start to finish. It took me a few days to get used to it, but it has definitely grown on me.

It's definitely a different look for me, but I like it! :)

I Fell In Love!

I FINALLY had theeeee best wash & go everrrr!!!! Feel the excitement??? lmao

I used As I Am Leave In & Curling Jelly with some coconut castor oil. I went to bed with wet hair and when I woke up it was still damp. Like the video I posted, I used a blow dryer on low to dry and stretch out my hair. Here's the pics:

1/4 of the way through I KNEW it was gonna be great! :)

Day 1 :)

Look at those curls!

Day 3 hair is always the best :)

I finally figured out my wash & go. Yay!

As I Am Wash & Go

I love this video because her hair pattern is very similar to mine and it came out so cute! I used this combo before with the samples I received and fell in love.  That leave in had my hair singing. I recently decided to finalllllyyyy purchase these products since they were on sale. I can't wait to try them again! :)

Hair Update

These past few months I haven't done too much with my hair. Here's a few memorable moments from January-August.

I straightened my hair for my birthday in March.

Marley Hair Crochet Braids

I've seen sooooo many Marley hair videos and they always make me say, "oooooh" lol. I've been wanting to try it for a while. Eventually, I'll try it out.

Out of all the videos I've seen, I've never seen this method for curling crochet braids. So cute!

Straight Hair Itch

11.1.13

I've been thinking about straightening my hair for a few months now. I was waiting to buy a new flat iron and for the weather to change before giving a straight hair a shot. The weather has changed so I figured one of these days I'd do some research and buy a flatiron. Before I got a chance to do my research I randomly came across this video.

My last rollerset got my hair realllly straight so I was like ding ding ding when I watched this. I've seen this method before but her results had me wanting to try it on my next washday.

A couple of weeks ago I received a box of 9 products from Profective...yup, I won another giveaway! :)
It was so random too. I got an email in September from LoveBrownSugar telling me that I won a giveaway that I entered in May! So I had to go back and see what it was I won. I'm thinking I just won a shampoo and conditioner but I get a box full of 9 things, yes 9!!! Now this Mega Growth line isn't necessarily geared towards natural hair so I was happy to get them but not ecstatic. I actually ended up donating a couple of things. After deciding to try straight hair, I figured I could use these products. They also claim to be good for heat styling so I thought my rollerset would come out pretty decent.

...which it did. Except for my ends, which desperately needed to be clipped. After wrapping my hair it did not get any straighter. And no I don't have pics lmao. Maybe I'll try it again with different products. Maybe lol.

My First Flexi Rod Set :)

9.24.13

I recently ordered a few things from Darcy's Botanicals and figured I'd try em out with my new flexi-rods.

First off, I just need to say how yummy all the products smell! The Curl Styling Leave In Cream smells like butter cream frosting, the Curling Cream Gel  smells like Skittles and the Sweet Cocoa Bean Curl Smoothing Cream smells like hot chocolate, yum :). For my flex-rod set I decided to just go with the leave in and gel with some coconut oil. I used 36 11/16 inch rods and I think it took me about an hour to set my hair. I slept with the rods and took down my hair the next day. Here's my results:

Pretty decent, right? The hold was good, my hair was soft and I had some shine, which I looove. I used a bit too much oil but other than that I think my hair came out really good. I'm gonna enjoy using these products :)

As far as how long the set lasted...I don't know how long it could've lasted because after two days I combed out my curls and twisted my hair for a very nice twistout. Pictures? Nahh you'll just have to take my word for it lol.

10.23.13

I've since used all three products for multiple things and I am sold! The Smoothing Cream is great on dry hair and I even had a pretty good rollerset with it. I've used the gel on wet and dry braidouts and I like that it has a hold but it isn't crunchy. I've read reviews where people said the hold was too hard but I haven't experienced that at all. I guess its best used when layered with other products. I also like that after a while I was lazy, didn't wash my hair but kept on using the products without crazy buildup.

Corkscrew Curls

This is a great Bantu Knot-Out alternative! I'd love to give this a try in the future :)

Clip-ins???

For the past few months I've been itching to add a little color to my hair. I flirted with the idea of dying my ends but I never really came to a decision of whether or not I should do it. Lately I've been thinking I could add color when I twist my hair or get crochets. That way I can get what I want without the risk of damaging my hair. Last week I came across two videos of natural haired ladies that used clip-ins to get a little splash of color. I know plenty of women add little pieces here and there but it never even crossed my mind to add hair to mine. I think in terms of either just my hair alone or a complete protective style with all of my hair covered. Clip-ins have never entered my world of possibilities but now that they have, I'm intrigued.

Here's the videos:

Oh, just to warn you, she has a ton of gorgeous hair!

I like how in the following video she incorporates the clip-ins as she styles her hair instead of just adding them in later.

If I can't find any affordable clip-ins I could always buy some regular old weft hair and sew on the little comb thingies myself lol.

Knowing me...I'll probably just skip looking for clip-ins and go right to the cheapie version. Cuz that's how I get down lmao

Braid & Curl

After washing my hair I felt like doing something different, so I decided on a Braid and Curl. I said I wanted to try this style a few months ago when NikkiMae did one for Valentines Day. I did a variation of what she did.

I used a tiny bit of Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture as my leave in, olive oil as a sealer, Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream as a styler and a bit of the As I Am Curling Jelly Curl and Coil Definer.

I didn't want to have a bajillion braids so I ended up with 17. I braided until there was 2 inches of hair left and rolled the ends with some perm rods.

Here's a nice tutorial that's similar to what I did. Her braids are bigger than mine, but its the same concept.

This was my first time using the Coconut Curling Cream and I really like it. My hair is moisturized, has shine and bounce and it smells yummy lol. As far as the style, it came out ok, nothing spectacular. It looks like a regular ole braidout. I think that next time I'm going to have bigger braids and leave more hair unbraided at the end. I also think I'm going to use my small rollers, which are slightly bigger than the perm rods that I used.

Here's a couple of pics:

Braidout and Big Ass Hair

After my bantu knot-out I wanted something bigger and less curly. So I did about 19 medium sized braids and this was the outcome the next day:

I was sooo in love with how soft and fluffy my hair was. Since it was on blow dried hair, I was afraid that the definition wouldn't last all day. It actually held up pretty good though. When I got home I was kinda bored so I decided to play in my hair. I finger combed it and boy did it get BIG!

I love how disrespectfully big it got. Man I was in love lol. I have a problem though. I need to find a new protective style because I need to keep my hands out of my hair plus I kinda don't want to be bothered right now. I'll figure something out.

Twistout on Blow Dried Hair

Isn't her hair just so damn gorgeous? I love watching her videos just so I could drool over how beautiful her hair is. You can check out the rest of her videos here.

Braid N Curl

For Valentine's Day there were a bajillion new natural hair tutorials. I came across NikkiMae's version of a braid n curl.

I've seen this style plenty of times before but I've never seen such fluffy results. Her hair would probably be more defined if it had dried all the way but I enjoyed the look anyway.

I plan on doing this style soon. My mini twists have run their course and I decided against doing the party tendrils. I'll do that some other time. Ooh random - I did a rollerset on my twists, which stretched the hell out of them. So I've been wearing my twists in a ponytail for the last two days. I haven't worn a ponytail since...high school? Yeah, something like that. I'm a little hype about my little pony lol. Oh yeah, back to the braid n curl...

Ooh maybe I'll finally use the free jars of Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme and Curl Boosting Jelly from the Curly and Lovely giveaway that I won back in November. Did I ever mention that before? Oh yeah, I received two full sized, 16 ounce jars of product. Clearly, they have been just sitting around, not being used lol. Well, my mother uses the Creme from time to time so I need to put it to use before she steals it lol. Updates soon :)

I ♥ Big Ass Hair!

I love Solange. I love her for her boldness, for her lyrical ability, for her quirky fashion sense and for her hair. Oh man, her hair! Since she cut off all of her hair three years ago, she fluctuates between wearing her own hair and wearing curly weaves and wigs. I drool whenever I see obnoxiously big curly hair, whether it is real or not. And I could not stop drooling when I saw pictures of Solange at her sister's HBO premiere of Life Is But A Dream. Look at this big ass hair:

Source

Seeing this picture has me thinking about getting some curly crochet braids. It's been a while and that would be a good protective style that I could leave my hair in for a couple months. Hmmm...

This picture also brought to mind a video that I watched a few weeks ago. India from MyNaturalSistas did a big curly fro tutorial that had me drooling.

The style that India did for the first half, I've done before and I love the results. But I've never picked my hair out to get more body like she did in the second half. I  know there are tons of naturals that do this to add life to their hair but for some strange reason I've just never gave it a try. I usually separate, fluff and play with my roots to try to add body. Maybe next time I'm trying to get big ass hair I'll use a pick. If I can find mine...I haven't used it since 2010 lol.

"Party Tendrils"

Sooo before I start, watch this hair tutorial:

Cute right?

The last time that I had mini twists I came across this video the day after I had a dream about setting my twists on rollers or perm rods. While this coulda just been a sign that I read too many hair blogs and watch too many tutorials on Youtube, at the time I took it as a sign that I should rod my twists and take em out. Somehow I changed my mind and ended up doing something else. So I figured this time around I would actually do it. Hopefully these twists will last two weeks so we'll see by then :)

Blog Revamp

I'm thinking its about time I make some changes on here. I'm still unemployed with plenty of time on my hands and plenty of things on my mind. So I figured I could start posting on a daily basis, based off of themes. At first I thought it would be corny, but why the hell not? I need to get back in the habit of writing again and I see this as the perfect way to do it.

Tunesday - I will share my favorite songs or just random songs that are stuck in my head.

Random Wednesday -  I am a verrrry random person with tons of crazy thoughts. Why not share them just for the hell of it?

Literary Thursday - I am going to finally start reading on a regular basis. I swear I am! lol. This probably will not be a weekly posting. I'll probably sporadically post a synopsis, my reaction and possibly bits and pieces of what I find interesting.

Natural Hair Fridays - Now y'all know I lovesss me some natural hair! lol. Every week I am going to post a blog, picture or video of some gorgeous curly hair. I'll also be posting styles I'd like to try in the future.

This is quite a commitment. However, I know I can do it. I know that I need to do it. To keep myself stimulated and to start something and actually pull through with it. Knowing me, its gonna be some work for me to keep this up. I only plan to keep this going until I have a full time job and amp up my social life. I might even keep it going or change it up when that happens. Who knows though? We'll see :)
